MSSA Cups

The Maryland cup tradition has a long and rich history that goes back more than a century. The Rowland Cup is Maryland's oldest cup competition, first played in 1914, and is the state's open championship. The Stewart Cup began in 1932 for teams vying for the state's amateur title. The Morton Cup was created to honor former MSSA Vice President Darwin "Lefty" Morton and is for teams not competing in either the Rowland or Stewart Cup. We also offer the McGrath (Over-30), Maryland Over-40 & Over-50 Cups. Our teams also are eligible to play tournaments organized by our leagues and other US Adult Soccer members.
Cup Registration Open Registration Closes 20 December
(1 November) Registration is open for the 2027 Cup Season. Teams may apply for the Stewart, Morton , McGrath (O-30), Maryland Over-40 & Over-50 Cups. The Rowland Cup is integrated with the Maryland-District-Virginia Cup. Those teams will be selected among the league participants. Registration CLOSES 20 December.
Play will start on 10 January with the goal to complete by March. Several of our winners will advance to the qualifiers for USASA Region I. Only teams registered through MSSA affiliated leagues are eligible for the Stewart Cup. Non-affiliated teams may register for the other cups but will be required to register their players with MSSA.
A draw will be held for all of our cups. Teams must enter online through the link below. Matches will be played primarily on Sundays. We will make adjustments due to weather delays. 2027 MSSA Cup Registration
The registration link on the right allows you to register for one and up to all five MSSA competitions that we will play. The Stewart Cup is the default on this page. If registering for a different cup, click that competition and remove the Stewart. A draw will take place after the registration period. We will start the second Sunday of January & look to conclude by March. The schedules will be posted on this site.
The registration fee for each cup is $210. This covers admin & field fees. Teams are responsible for referee fees, paid prior to the start of the match, divided evenly among the two teams ($125 per team in cash). Once registered, teams will be sent an invoice of $250 for the playing bond. The bond will be returned after the conclusion of the competition as long as the team did not forfeit or cause some disciplinary action. If the bond is used, the team must replenish the bond to be allowed to continue to compete.
Eligibility for the Stewart Cup are for MSSA affiliated teams (must play among one of the MSSA leagues). All other cups are open to any team, those not affiliated with MSSA must register their players. For the McGrath (Over-30), Over-40 and Over-50 competitions, a player is eligible once attaining the age of that competition within the calendar year of the competition. For the 2027 Cup Season, eligibility is the following:
• Over-30 - born 1997 or earlier • Over-40 - born 1987 or earlier • Over-50 – born 1977 or earlier
