INTERDIVISIONAL CUP
They were the comeback kids all season long. On the final day of play, Three Brothers S.C. defeated Shooting Stars 5-1 to win the 1st Division. In the semifinals of the Interdivisional Cup, Three Brothers came back from a 1-0 deficit against Brookland United to put in two goals in the last 15 minutes. But the cup final was another story for Columbia Select S.C. was too strong this day as Todd Haskins scored once and set up Tim Ellis twice to give Columbia Select S.C. a 3-1 victory over 1st Division Champion Three Brothers to take the Mid-Maryland Soccer Association Interdivisional Cup. The final was held at Prince George’s Community College. In the 19th minute of the first half, Haskins took advantage of a slip by Three Brothers defender Al Haji Saacoh by pouncing on the loose ball and letting go a shot from 20 yards out that went into the upper left corner of the net. Haskins helped double the advantage five minutes into the second half, putting a free kick towards the near post to the onrushing Ellis, whose volley beat keeper Justin McCabe. The two paired up again, this time in the 20th minute on a run by Haskins on the right side. Haskins was able to pull McCabe off his line and then slid the ball to Ellis on the far side of the post for an easy open net shot. Three Brothers struck back immediately as Patrick Crawford put a nice chip over the Columbia’s diving keeper Brian Boussy. Three Brothers had a chance to cut the deficit by one in the 43rd minute but James O’Connor’s shot hit the post. This is the third straight fall season that Columbia has lifted the Cup. Three Brothers last won it in the Spring ’98 season. Columbia defeated the Spring ’99 Cup holder, Shooting Stars, in the semifinals last week.
