U.S. WOMEN vs. CANADA - 10 May - R.F.K. Stadium
Led by high-scoring forward Abby Wambach, the U.S. Women's Soccer Team returns to Washington, D.C., for the first time since the 2003 FIFA Women's World Cup when they face northern rival Canada at RFK Stadium on Saturday, 10 May. Kickoff is set for 7 pm.  Both teams will be testing their skills as they prepare for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in August.

ENTRY LEVEL REFEREE COURSES - There is always need for referees throughout the state.  We encourage current and former players to become referees as they will have a great understanding of the game.  Refereeing is a good opportunity to keep in shape and make a few bucks.  Go to the New Referee Course Page for more information.

Congratulations to MSSA Secretary Anna Steffen upon her induction into the 2007 Class of the U.S. Adult Soccer Hall of Fame.  Anna joins J. Eugene Ringsdorf and John Ellinger, who were inducted as part of the 2006 Class, among the Maryland contingency in the USASA Hall of Fame.  The MSSA family is proud of her accomplishments.  The following introduction was presented during the induction ceremony that took place on 19 October in Fort Lauderdale, Florida:

During World War II, Anna Steffen’s family fled their home in 1944, resettling in Austria. It was there that Anna was introduced to the game of soccer, first attending local matches and then pro/regional games. In 1951, Anna immigrated to the United States, coming to Baltimore. Anna resided in California briefly in 1954 and first participated with the local soccer community there. Upon her return to Maryland, Steffen got involved with the Baltimore Kickers, who started their team in 1953 and continue playing to this day. She became the recording secretary for the club in 1955, and, in 1958, she met one of the Kickers players, Fritz Steffen, on the soccer field. The two married in 1960, and were instrumental in the organization and success of the team. Over the years, Anna has served as club house chairperson, soccer secretary, and as General Soccer Manager from 1984 to 2004. In addition to her labor of love with the Kickers, Anna served in an official position with the German Umbrella Organization of Maryland for ten years and as Public Relations Director for the Maryland Major Soccer League during that time. In l984, Anna was elected as Secretary/Registrar of the Maryland State Soccer Association, a position she continues to serve in to this day. As a state officer, she has also served on various USASA committees. Anna was the first recipient of the Dr. John A. Schmid Service Award in 1987, recognizing her contributions to the game in the state of Maryland. In 1990, Anna was awarded the German-American Friendship Award.
