Rowland Cup quarterfinals are next in the schedule. (5 January) The 2009 Cup season got off to a good start as three first round play-in matches were completed in the first weekend. In the Stewart Cup, Select FC Magicians were able to hold off Digital Phenom FC 3-1 to advance to the quarterfinals of that competition. In the two Rowland Cup games, Christos FC took care of the Maryland Kicks 6-0 while the Baltimore Colts FC dismissed Mundo FC 6-1. The quarterfinal for the Rowland Cup will take place this Sunday at Western Regional Park.

Stewart Cup Round Next
Rowland Cup semifinals set for 25 January. (11 January) Green Turtle knocked out defending champion Baltimore Colts FC with a 2-1 result. Last season, the Colts won all four cups. The other quarterfinal results had FC Allyance edging Hangover United 3-2; Christos FC defeating Digital Phenom FC 3-0; and Select FC Magicians drawing against the Baltimore Kickers 1-1 but advancing with a 3-2 PK shootout. This Sunday, we will play the quarterfinals for the Stewart Cup at Western Regional Park.

Rowland Cup Semifinals Next
Weather holds up to keep us on schedule. (19 January) We got through the quarterfinals of the Stewart Cup with the Baltimore Kickers, Baltimore Colts FC, Hangover United and Green Turtle advancing to the semifinals. The Kickers edged the Baltimore Kickers 1-0 and Hangover United defeated FC Allyance 3-2. Green Turtle and Christos played to a 3-3 draw with Green Turtle advancing through on PK's, 6-5. The Colts had an easy time with Select FC Magicians, winning 5-1.
This Sunday, the semifinals of the Rowland Cup take place at Western Regional Park.

February Brings US Cups
US Amateur Cup Kicks Off. (29 January) Christos FC and FC Allyance have advanced to the final of the Rowland Cup, Maryland's open competition. Christos went through with a 5-0 beating on Select FC Magicians. Allyance came back from a 2-0 deficit to draw Green Turtle at 2-2. Allyance advance with a 5-3 penalty kick win.
We begin US Amateur Cup play this weekend with Select FC Magicians and FC Allyance squaring off at Western Regional Park to determine who will meet defending champion Baltimore Colts FC in the semifinal. The following weekend, it is the US Open Cup.

Will Meet Colts in Amateur Semi
Christos & Green Turtle are the other pair for the US Amateur Cup. (4 February) FC Allyance defeated Select FC Magicians 5-1 to advance to the semifinal of the Maryland qualifier of the US Amateur Cup. Allyance will meet defending champion Baltimore Colts FC while in the other leg, Green Turtle and Christos FC will square off. The semifinals are set for 15 February
This Sunday, we have the semifinals of the US Open Cup. The first match features the Colts against Christos followed by Allyance and Select FC. The semi's will be played at Western Regional Park, kicking off at 11:00. The final is scheduled for 22 February.

The Two to Meet in Open Final
Green Turtle advance to Stewart final. (11 February) Shondell Busby weaved through three defenders to score the only goal of the semifinal match between Christos FC and Baltimore Colts FC in the US Open Cup. Christos defeated the defending champion to set up a meeting with FC Allyance in the final. Allyance relied on goals from Dan Griffin, Chris Hastings and Vinny Pispopo as they won against Select FC Magicians 3-1. Steve Leadore scored the lone goal for Select. The final will be played on 22 February at Western Regional Park.
The next match in our cup season involves the semifinals of the US Amateur Cup. The first game involves Christos and Green Turtle followed by the Colts and Allyance. Kickoff is at 11:00 at Western Regional Park.
On Tuesday night, Green Turtle and the Baltimore Kickers played the semifinal of the Stewart Cup with Green Turtle advancing with a 9-1 victory. They will meet the winner between the Colts and Hangover United in the final.

Amateur Final Set
Open final to be played this Sunday. (18 February) Matt Beckman hit a brace as Green Turtle shutout Christos FC in the first semifinal of the Maryland qualifier of the US Amateur Cup. Ben Pardew added the third goal. In the other semifinal, the Baltimore Colts FC had defeated FC Allyance 4-1 with goals from Guil Costa, Arron Wheeler (2) and Bill Whittington. Frank Murphy scored the lone goal for Allyance. Green Turtle and the Colts will play the Amateur final on 8 March.
On Sunday, Christos and Allyance will meet in the Maryland final of the US Open Cup. The match is set for 11:00 at Western Regional Park.

Defeats Allyance to take the Maryland Qualifier
The two will play a rematch for Rowland Cup final. (24 February) Shondell Busby hit a first half brace at Christos FC shutout FC Allyance to qualify as the Maryland representative in the U.S. Open Cup. Christos will move on to the Region I qualifiers of the Open Cup. The two regional finalists will advance to the next round, which involves professional teams. The Region I winner will take part in the USASA National Finals that will be held at the Seminole County Sports Training Center in Sanford, Florida on 24-26 July.
Christos and Allyance will meet again this Sunday for the Rowland Cup title. The Rowland Cup is Maryland's oldest championship, first played in 1914. The match will be played at Calvert Hall High School at 1:00.

Amateur & Rowland Cup Finals to be Played
Stewart Cup semifinal rescheduled for 15 March. (7 March) The weather last weekend made us shuffle some games around. The Rowland Cup final between Christos and Allyance will be played Sunday evening, 6:15 at Cedar Lane Park in Columbia, Maryland (Howard County). Earlier in the day, we will have the US Amateur Cup final between the Baltimore Colts FC and Green Turtle. That match will be played at 2:00 at Cedar Lane Regional Park in Bel Air, Maryland (Harford County). Please note that the two parks have similar names but are located in two different parts of the state. Directions can be found at the link below.
The Stewart Cup semifinal matching the Colts against Hangover United will take part next Sunday, 15 March.

Stewart Cup semifinal next on schedule. (9 March) On a warm March day, two finals were played as the Rowland and US Amateur Cups were completed. The first was the Amateur Cup which featured the Baltimore Colts FC and Green Turtle. The Colts took a commanding 3-0 lead with goals from Guil Costa, Bill Whittington and Adam Hack and appeared to repeat their championship of last year. But Green Turtle had a different idea, first with a 70th minute goal from Louie Karko and then another from Ben Pardew with about 8 minutes left. Green Turtle pushed to pull the game even but the Colts were able to hold on to their lead as the match ended 3-2. They will represent Maryland in the regional rounds of the US Amateur Cup that will kick off next month.
The Rowland Cup was a replay of the US Open Cup final with Christos FC and FC Allyance meeting this time for Maryland's Open Championship. Bryan Moffa opened the scoring with a free kick 12 minutes into the match. He later made an assist for Shondell Busby as Christos took a 2-0 halftime lead. Christos added two more in the second half with a penalty converted by Andy Wells and Danny Skelton neatly putting away a shot from outside the penalty area. Vinnie Pispopo's goal kept the game from being a shutout with Christos winning Maryland's oldest competition 4-1. The Rowland Cup was founded in 1914.
This Sunday, the Stewart Cup semifinal will be played between the Colts against Hangover United. We then move on to the Over-30 Cup.

Will Meet Green Turtle for Stewart Final
U.S. Over-30 next in line. (15 March) The Baltimore Colts FC took a 2-0 halftime lead and built it to a 3-1 victory over Hangover United in the semfinal of the Stewart Cup. Joe Barger scored with a header in the first half and Ade Elliott doubled the lead before halftime. In the second half, Steve Bottcher made it 3-0 before Danny Gerbasi add the lone goal for Hangover. The Colts will take on Green Turtle in the Stewart final scheduled for 19 April.

Defeat Mundo in Over-30 Semifinal
Final to be played against Christos. (22 March) After a scoreless first half, Tony Taminini and Pat Crawford put the match away as Green Turtle blanked Mundo FC 2-0 in the semifinal of the US Over-30 Cup. Green Turtle will meet Christos FC in the final to see which side qualifies for Maryland in the Region I knockout of the cup.

Second Half Comeback to Take Over-30 Qualifier
Will play Wallace FC in May. (29 March) Pat Crawford had put Green Turtle in the lead with his first half strike but a second half comeback by Christos FC gave them the US Over-30 Cup win to qualify as Maryland's entry in Region I play. Ed McCue tied the match and then Joe Barger put in the game winner ten minutes later. A twenty-five minute thunderstorm delay made things interesting but Christos was able to hold on for the title. They will meet Wallace FC of Delaware on 17 May at Cedar Lane Regional Park in Harford County.

Maryland Derby for US Open Cup
Winner advances to the semifinals. (21 April) Charm City FC of the NPSL defeated Go Soccer FC of New Jersey 5-0 in the opening round of the Region I qualifyier for the U.S. Open Cup. Darren Larocque (2), Ben Pardew, Ben Delisle and Luciano Brunetti scored for Charm City, whose players also compete locally as Green Turtle in the Maryland Major Soccer League. So it will not be a surprise for Maryland entry Christos when the two face off each other on 3 May at Cedar Lane Park in Harford County. Kickoff is at 3:00 and the winner will meet Vereinigung Erzgebirge (EPA) or Aegean Hawks (DC/VA) on 24 May.

Charm City Takes Derby
Defeats Christos in US Open Cup Qualifier
Will meet Aegean Hawks in USASA Region I semifinal. (4 May) Charm City FC of the NPSL beat Christos FC 4-1 in a Maryland Derby quarterfinal for the USASA Region I qualifier in the US Open Cup. Christos hit the net in the first minute and held onto that lead into the 70th minute. Substitute Tommy Appel-Schumacher set up Angus Burke with a free kick to draw the match. He then added a hat trick with goals in the 72nd, 77th and 83rd minutes. Charm City will play against Aegean Hawks of DC-Virginia in the regional semifinal.

Colts Advance
Shutout Takes Them to Semifinals
Aegean Hawks are next in line. (14 May) The Baltimore Colts FC blanked Phoenix Majors of Eastern Pennsylvania 2-0 to advance to the semifinals of the USASA Region I qualifiers of the US Amateur Cup. After a scoreless first half, John Ports took a pass from Andre Wise to give the Colts the lead in the 70th minute. Wise got a second assist when he set up Sean Rothe in the 82nd minute. The Colts will host the Aegean Hawks of DC-Virginia on 31 May.
Christos/Colts FC will be visited by Wallace FC of Delaware in the US Over-30 Cup. The regional qualifier will be played at Cedar Lane Regional Park (Harford County) at 2:00 on Sunday.

Stewart Cup Final Tuesday
Will play United SC in O-30 Cup. (19 May) Christos/Colts FC defeated Wallace FC of Delaware 4-2 to advance to the semifinals of the US Over-30 Cup. Giuliano Celenza led Christos/Colts with a brace while Shane Dougherty and Todd Hicks scored as well. They will play United SC of DC-Virginia next.
The final of the Stewart Cup will take place on Tuesday night, 19 May, 9:00 at Catonsville High School. The two finalist are the Baltimore Colts FC and Green Turtle. The Stewart Cup is Maryland's amateur competition and was first played in 1932.
The Colts will host the Aegean Hawks of DC-Virginia on 31 May in the semifinal of the US Amateur Cup. It will will be played at Cedar Lane Regional Park (Harford County) at 2:00.

Take Stewart Cup Over Colts
Colts ousted out of Open Cup. (1 June) In the final of the Stewart Cup, Green Turtle edged out the Baltimore Colts FC in a penalty shootout 3-2. The match ended in regulation 1-1 and went straight into the penalty kick round. The Stewart Cup is Maryland's amateur competition and was first played in 1932.
The Colts did not fare so well against the Aegean Hawks of DC-Virginia in the semifinal of the US Amateur Cup. Tim Lane's goal looked like it would be enough for the Colts to advance to the final but the Hawks tied it in the 87th minute from a corner kick. They then went on to score two more goals in overtime.
Christos/Colts FC will play in the semifinal of the US Over-30 Cup this Sunday. It will will take place at the Maryland SoccerPlex at 11:00.

Region I final to be played on 21 June. (8 June) Christos/Colts FC used a brace by Giuliano Celenza and a goal from Todd Hicks to defeat United FC (DC/VA) 3-2. The win takes the team to the final of the USASA Region I qualifier for the U.S. Over-30 Cup. They will meet Danbury United O30 (CT) at the Region I finals that will be played at the Ukrainian National Club in Horsham, Pennsylvania. The winner will take part in the USASA National Finals that will be played at the Seminole County Sports Training Center in Sanford, Florida between 24 to 26 July.

Danbury United Advance
Team misses out on making the national finals. (22 June) Christos/Colts FC came up empty against Region I defending champion Danbury United Over 30 in the final of the Region I qualifier of the US Over-30 Cup. Danbury won with a 3-0 shutout to advance for the second year in a row to the national finals. The USASA National Finals will be played at the Seminole County Sports Training Center in Sanford, Florida between 24 to 26 July.

Baltimore Bays Win Region
Qualify for National Finals in Florida
Defeat FC Delco of Eastern Pennsylvania. (29 June) The Baltimore Bays Chelsea defeated FC Delco Black-Arsenal of Eastern Pennsylvania 1-0 in the USASA Region I Final of the Men's U23 Cup. The two teams made through the finals after taking part in a 28-team tournament the weekend before in Manalapan, New Jersey. Marco Mangione sent in a cross from the left side in the 40th minute that Benny Kujawa headed in. The Bays were able to hold off Delco to advance to the USASA National Cup Finals that will take place between 24 to 26 July at The Seminole County Sports Training Center in Sanford, Florida.

Bays Come Up Short
Defeated in National Semifinal
Edged by North Texas side. (27 July) Baltimore Bays Chelsea lost out to eventual champion Legends FC of North Texas in the national semifinal of the US U23 Cup that took part at the Seminole County Sports Training Center in Sanford, Florida between 24 to 26 July. The Bays took the early lead on a goal from Nino Mangione. The team fell behind 3-1 before Nino's brother Marco cut it to 3-2 in the 92nd minute.
