AC United Wins Big

Advance to Quarterfinals of Open Cup

AC United demolish Ukrainian Nationals 7-1 in U.S. Open Cup Region I qualifier.  (30 April)  The match got off to a bad start for AC United as they gave a penalty to Ukrainian Nationals in the 10th minute but the team bounced back to take a 3-1 halftime lead against the Eastern Pennsylvania side.  In the end, they scored 7 with a brace from JC Cole and goals from Pat Crawford, Danny Skelton, Lou Karko, Luke Strutt and Tony Tamanini.  United will face another team from Eastern Pennsylvania, Vereinigung Erzgebirge Club, this Sunday at Rockburn Park.  The quarterfinal match will kick off at 1:45.  The two finalists in the Region I qualifier will move on to the next stage of the U.S. Open Cup, which includes teams from the MLS and USL.

Defeat Vereinigung Erzgebirge 4-1

AC United to meet Aegean Hawks in Region I U.S. Open Cup Semifinal.  (7 May)  After a slow start to the match, AC United went on a roll after Jim Fendryk converted a penalty in the 20th minute.  Pat Crawford made it 2-0 before the teams took a break at halftime.  JC Cole got things off to a quick start in the second half scoring on a break away within the first minute.  Crawford then got his second of the day to put the game out of reach.

AC United will now play a double against the Aegean Hawks of DC/Virginia.  The first involves a first round U.S. Amateur Cup match that will be played this Sunday, 1:00, at the DuFour Center at Catholic University in Washington, DC.  The following Sunday, 20 May, the two will meet for the regional semifinal of the Open Cup.  Time and location to be established.  The winner will be one of two Region I entries who move on to the next stage of the U.S. Open Cup, which includes teams from the MLS and USL.

Overtime Win Over Aegean Hawks

Two sides to meet again in Region I U.S. Open Cup Semifinal.  (16 May)  In the first leg of a unique double, AC United defeated the Aegean Hawks of DC/Virginia in overtime by the score of 2-1 in the USASA Region I qualifier of the U.S. Amateur Cup.  Danny Skelton put United ahead in the first half with a fine header.  The lead was lost just before halftime as the teams went into the interval tied 1-1.  Opportunities were missed on both ends during the second half and the match went into overtime.  In the second 15-minute period, United took the lead again with some good play in the penalty area that lead to Scott Zakroski calmly putting away his shot.  The squad then held on while the Hawks put in their best effort to tie the game once again.  It went into the final seconds as United defender Eric Breach cleared the ball off the goal line before the final whistle.  United and the Hawks will now play a second leg this Sunday, 20 May, this time in the regional semifinal of the U.S. Open Cup.  The match will take place at Greenbrier Park Stadium (Yorktown High School) in Arlington, Virginia.  The match will kick off at 7:15.  The winner will be one of two Region I entries who move on to the next stage of the U.S. Open Cup, which includes teams from the MLS and USL.

Colts Threepeat

Defeat Baltimore United Sidekicks 5-0

AC United has bad evening in its quest for U.S. Open Cup.  (24 May)  The Baltimore Colts FC defended their Rowland Cup title against the Baltimore United Sidekicks to make it three in a row in Maryland's open competition.  The Colts easily handled the Sidekicks by a 5-0 margin.  The cup was first played in 1914 and is in the honor of Harry Rowland.

AC United was eliminated from the U.S. Open Cup after losing to the Aegean Hawks of DC/Virginia 4-0.  The teams met the week prior with United winning in overtime, 2-1, in the USASA Region I qualifier of the U.S. Amateur Cup.  The fortunes were reversed in the Open competition with the Hawks scoring two goals in each half.

Colts & United in Amateur Semi

Colts Bow Out in Over-30

AC United and the Baltimore Colts FC to meet in Amateur Cup semifinal.  (30 May)  Maryland will have a team represent the state in the final of the USASA Region I qualifier of the U.S. Amateur Cup.  It will be either the Baltimore Colts FC or AC United as the two will meet this Sunday in the semifinal stage of the tournament.  The match will kickoff at 1:00 at UMBC Stadium.  The Colts trashed Wallace FC of Delaware 7-0 in the quarterfinal while United defeated Phoenix FC of Eastern Pennsylvania 5-0.  The winner will go on to the regional final to be played at the United German Hungarian Complex in Oakwood, Pennsylvania on 24 June.   The Colts did not fare so well in the U.S. Over-30 Cup, losing to Randor Elite of Eastern Pennsylvania 7-0.

Defeat United in Maryland Derby

Will play Boston Olympiakos in Region I Amateur Cup Final.  (4 June)  The Baltimore Colts FC defeated AC United 2-0 from a brace by Sebastian Haensel to advance to the final of the USASA Region I qualifier of the U.S. Amateur Cup.  Both goals were scored in the second half.  The Colts will play the final on 24 June at the United German Hungarian Complex in Oakwood, Pennsylvania where they will meet Boston Olympiakos of Massachusetts.  Olympiakos defeated Danbury Connecticut 2-0 to reach the final.  The winner will advance to the USASA National Cup Finals that will be played in Seattle, Washington between 3 to 5 August.

Overtime Goal Proves Decisive

Colts to play in Region I final of U.S. Amateur Cup on Sunday.  (24 June)  Chris Williams redirection of a Darnell Edwards shot gave the Baltimore Bays 89 the silver goal as it edged the Baltimore Colts FC in overtime 3-2.  The match went back and forth with the Colts taking the lead before halftime and the Bays responding in the second half with goals from Marco Mangione and Mark Wysocki.  The Colts tied in with 10 minutes left to put the match into overtime.  The Stewart Cup was first played in 1932 and is Maryland's Amateur competition.

The Colts will meet Boston Olimpiakos of Massachusetts in the U.S. Amateur Cup Region I final at the United German Hungarian Club in Oakford, Pennsylvania.  The winner advances to the USASA National Cup Finals that will be played in Seattle, Washington between 3-5 August.  The match will be web cast live on Team Line at noon.

In the Maryland qualifiers of the U.S. U23 Cup, the Baltimore Bays got off to a good start with a 2-0 victory over Columbia United.  The next match in the qualifying group will take place on Wednesday, 27 June, 8:00 at Covenant Park, between United and Ambassadors FC.

Boston Olimpiakos go to National Finals

Run to national Amateur title cut short.  (25 June)  The Baltimore Colts FC just did not have it Sunday as it lost 3-0 to Boston Olimpiakos of Massachusetts in the U.S. Amateur Cup Region I final played at the United German Hungarian Club in Oakford, Pennsylvania.  Olimpiakos advances to the USASA National Cup Finals that will be played in Seattle, Washington between 3-5 August.

Maryland Teams Shine in Regional Tournament

Men's U23 final featured Maryland derby.  (17 July)  All three Maryland teams went undefeated into the finals of the USASA Region I U23 Cup that was held on the 14 July weekend in Horsham, Pennsylvania.  The one blemish went to the Baltimore Bays who lost 1-0 in the finals to state rival Ambassadors FC.  The Bays were hoping to repeat as Region I Champion but could not put one by the Ambassadors.  On the women's side, the Bethesda Eclipse fought their way through to earn its way to the national finals.  Kate Nicholson scored the lone goal in her team's defeat of Soccer Plus from the WPSL.  Both the Ambassadors and the Eclipse will represent the state and region in the USASA National Finals that will be held at the Starfire Complex in Seattle, Washington between 3-5 August.
