Maryland's Open Competition
In a clash of Maryland Major Soccer League foes, Christos used a solid team effort to earn a convincing 3-0 victory over Bill Bateman's in the Rowland Cup final on May 14. Reggie Adubofour led Christos with two goals, while keeper James Haislip earned the shutout. Christos controlled the play early but was unable to hit the net. Finally, in the 35th minute, their hard work paid off as Adubofour took a feed from Chris Cosentino and slid the ball under Bill Bateman's keeper Joe Reinhardt. The half ended at 1-0.
Jesse Haislip set up the second goal at the 51st minute by beating Reinhardt to the loose ball, getting by him and rolling a cross to Nick Smith for an easy tap-in. Smith set up the final touch by putting a cross to Adubofour, who finished the pass with a powerful header for the final score.
The Christos' defense, anchored by Brian Lawson, did a stingy job on the Bateman's offense while the midfield got outstanding play from Jose Cornejo and Jody Haislip.
For Christos, the Rowland Cup final was gratifying win as it lost the Stewart Cup final only two weeks earlier in penalty kicks against Brookland United. After falling behind 3-1, Christos went ahead 4-3 only to see United tied the match at the end.
